With December and January in our rear view mirrors, the days getting longer, and the temperatures toping 50 on a weekly basis, the urge to blow the dust of the clubs and take a few awkward swings producing deep muddy divots is coming out of hibernation.

The tournament committee has been busy putting together this years schedule for your playing pleasure. With a significant overhaul of the schedule last year, we felt there need only be some minor tweaking of this season‚s events. Early on, you will see more "Bring a Friend" events with the hopes that your guests will enjoy the experience and look to join our club. Being a Ryder Cup year, we have scheduled this fun event for mid September. In this tournament, you will play 6 holes of Scramble format, 6 holes of Best Ball and 6 holes of Alternate shot. Due to the possibility in the alternate shot format, of leaving your partner in a less than favorable position, it is recommended you not play with a friend so as not to mess up a good relationship.

Each month we sought to have a mixture of individual and/or 2 ball or 4 ball events. Seven of the first ten events are individual formats, allowing new members to post scores to establish their handicaps.

For those of us who cannot regularly play in the 36 or 54 hole events, each week-end day will also offer the comparable 18 hole event.  If you don‚t care for the challenge and thought provoking of the 4-club tournament, we will offer the full bag event side by side.

We will again play both Quarry Ridge and Blackledge men's clubs in our annual interclub matches. Last year we won both events with strong finishes at our home course. This year, the interclub matches final days will be played away. This will be a true test of our ability to retain the trophies. Look for postings in the pro shop to sign up for these matches that are open to all members.

We are looking to bring the Ringers tournament back again this year. In this season long event, your best hole scores are accumulated from each tournament round played. Low gross and net will be calculated at year end and payouts will go to approximately 30% of the field in the form of cold hard cash (not Proshop credit). Last year we had only 40 members get into this event. The winners took home $100 each with graduated payouts from there. We hope to see more try this year to go DEEP during the season.

Remember to join the Hole In One Pool to protect your bar tab. Once the pool has been won, you will need to put your $5.00 back in again. Twice last year, aces were made during tournaments, but the shooters had opted to invest the $5.00 in Lucent or Enron stock instead. To avoid the bar tab, they pulled the ball out of the hole, declared it an unplayable lie, and scored a par.

Throughout the season, I would love to hear your thoughts on the events we have scheduled, any new ideas you may have, and what you would like to seen different next year.

We hope to have a great season. The weather has to be better than it was last spring. Remember, if you can‚t play good, play fast, yell fore, and tip your waitresses.

See you on the links.
